I met Clare out side Jimmy's off-licence in Lowerhouses a few months after I had wrote off my Yamaha RD250LC . I was outside the shop with Mick and Steve Hall and Peter Harrington. This was just somewhere we use to hang out when we where younger. As we sat there a Yamaha RD250LC pulled up, it was identical to the one i had just wrote off. The person was in full leathers and climbed off the bike. They removed their helmet and it was a very pretty young girl. I just looked and said "WOW I'm having her". My mates and I had a good laugh about it and Steve said "You have no chance we have been trying for ages". Clare had lovely smile that just lite up her face. She stayed and talked to us for a short while. I told her I wanted a go on her bike and explained what had happen to my bike, Clare said that it was fine and we would go for a ride sometime. I just thought she was being polite, but a few days later she was good to her word. Clare came on the back which was quite a suprise that she trust me enough to get on the back. As we rode I was aware that she was holding me and not the grab rail. We rode for a while and in the end i drove to my work in Marsden, I thought why not. Once there we went in side as I had a key. We chatted for a while and then I thought lets just go for it. I went for the kiss and she responded. Next thing my bosses desk was cleared and the rest is history.
The start of our relationship was a bit rocky to say the least. Clare was torn between myself and Granvillle, so she sort of jumped (litrally) between the 2 of us. As you can imagine this caused a lot of arugments. After a short while she stopped messing about and the relationship started properly. At first her mother really didn't like me. All she saw was a rough looking lad on a motorbike, so she made my life pretty uncomfortable. One day I had left my motorbike jacket over a chair in the dining room and she could smell glue. She thought I was a glue sniff and went through all my pockets looking for glue. It wasn't till later that Clive (her husband) told her he had fixed the chair earlier in the day and thats why she could smell glue lol. On another occasion, I was going outside to look at something on Clares bike and her mother came running after me telling me not to forget my coat. The woman didn't like me and the feeling was mutual.
I remember one time when Clare tried to kill me, not on purpose but still. I went round one day and she had spent the day cleaning her bike, an Yamamha RD250LC. It was spotless and she was so proud of it. She mentioned that it had been making a funny noise and would I take it for a ride to listen to it. I set off up the road, slidding back and forth on the seat that she had polished too much. Set off down Longley Road a little bit faster than I should (not like me). I got to the bottom of Longley and tried to brakes for the junction of Sommerset Road and flew straight out into the road and across on to the dirt track opposite. No brakes (WTF.
